Q: What about my pets?

In order to ensure the enjoyment of our guests, the following guidelines have been established with the most sincere intentions to provide for the safety and well-being of all our guests and their pets:

  • Keen Lake is pet-friendly throughout the park and on our waterfront.  Pets at Keen Lake have their own beach and lake access.  Up to Two pets per unit are permitted at either a pet-friendly rental unit or your own campsite.  A fee of $75 is assessed for each pet staying in a pet-friendly rental unit. There is no fee to bring your pets camping with you.  (It is possible to bring additional pets, but prior arrangements must be made with management.)
  • Your Guests and Visitors may not bring pets.
  • All pet eliminations/dog droppings must be bagged and disposed of immediately and are the sole responsibility of the pet owner. (We provide Dogipot bags at various locations for your convenience.)
  • Pets should not be left unattended, particularly if their barking will disturb other campers.
  • When outside your unit, pets are to be on a short leash at all times, unless tied on a strong durable chain or rope that will not allow your pet to extend off the site/lawn in any direction.
  • Pets must be under the control of their owners at all times–we ask that  you do not allow your small children to walk your pet.
  • Please bring your pets papers indicating vaccinations to be presented to our staff upon request.
  • Pets (with the exception of service animals) are not permitted in the pool area, the people beach, the Game Room, the Movie Lounge, the Green Barn, Office or at Group Activities.

Q: Are campfires allowed and can I bring my own firewood?

Campfires are the heart and soul of a great camping experience. Keen Lake provides a fire ring at all campsites.

Keen Lake does NOT permit ANY firewood to be brought onto Keen Lake property. ALL firewood must be burned prior to your departure. Please do not take it with you.

Keen Lake has locally cut firewood available for purchase at our office.

WHY? Over the years, a number of exotic invasive species have been detected in the United States, having gained entry largely through human activities, mainly the movement of goods and people. Since 2002, The Emerald Ash Borer has killed tens of millions of ash trees. Of particular concern to those of us in Northeast Pennsylvania is the Sirex Wood Wasp and the Spruce Bark Beetle—both of which have the potential to decimate the Commonwealth’s pine and spruce resources.

In 2007, recognizing the potential economic impact hitchhiking non-native invasive pests could have on the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s communities, industries, and environment, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture enacted a quarantine order.  Firewood many NOT be transported across state lines and between commonwealth communities identified as having invasive species present.

Poconos Questions

Can I bring my boat to Keen Lake?

Keen Lake has a launch area for boats no larger than 14’.  There is a nominal fee for all camping guests for every day you utilize your watercraft on the lake.

Only electric motors are permitted, and If you plan to bring one, please ensure that your boat is registered in your state of residence.  All watercraft in PA are required to have wearable, coast-guard approved life vests for every person in the watercraft.  These must be worn by children ages 12 and younger.  You will also be required to have a sound producing device (i.e. horn, whistle, etc.) so that you may alert others in the event of an emergency.

PLEASE NOTE: Guests must clean boats prior to launching them in Keen Lake. Non-native plants and animals have the potential to degrade ecosystem health and make waterways unsuitable for recreational activities such as boating, fishing, and swimming. To prevent this, please inspect and clean all vessels, trailers, equipment, and clothing before transporting them to different water bodies:
–Remove all visible mud, plants or animals.
–Clean and dry all clothing and equipment.
–Only release plants, fish or animals back into the body of water from where they came.

Thank you for keeping Keen Lake clean!

Why do you charge a fee for me to launch my own boat on the lake?

Owning a lake and a dam has a unique parameter of liability and financial obligation.  These fees allow us to continue to offer boating opportunities to our guests.

How old do I have to be to rent a boat?

You must be 18 years old to sign the boat contract and therefore, rent a boat.  Keen Lake does not permit children under the age of 12 to operate a boat alone.  It is at the parent’s discretion to determine if their minor child who is age 12 to 17 is able to safely operate a watercraft.

Is a Fishing License required?

Anyone age 16 or older if required to have a Pennsylvania Fishing license to fish at Keen Lake.  To get your fishing license, please visit www.fishandboat.com. You may follow this link for more information about Pennsylvania fishing guidelines.
